Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Serological tests panel for the assessment of sexually transmitted diseases.

More than 1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are acquired every day worldwide, the majority of which are asymptomatic.  Each year there are an estimated 374 million new infections with 1 of 4 STIs: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and trichomoniasis. More than 500 million people aged 15 to 49 years are estimated to have a genital HSV infection.1

STIs are generally acquired by sexual contact. The bacteria, viruses or parasites that cause sexually transmitted diseases may pass from person to person in bodily fluids.  Sometimes these infections can be transmitted nonsexually, such as from mothers to their infants during pregnancy or childbirth, or through blood transfusions or shared needles.

STIs do not always cause symptoms. It is possible to contract STIs from people who seem perfectly healthy and may not even know they have an infection.  Laboratory testing play key roles in managing STIs: diagnose, guide treatment, and help with the long-term management of patients.

Our STIs assays helping the laboratories to meet the rising burden of STIs, such as HSV infection:

  • Complete Panel for the HSV infection detection: HSV IgG, HSV IgM
  • Direct type 1 and 2 identification kits: HSV-1 IgG, HSV-2 IgG
  • High specificity and sensitivity of the IgG and IgM kits
  • Low cross reactivity with other Herpesvirus family immunoglobulins.
